This is something that should exist in Manhattan:
In crowded urban areas like Tokyo, where the average apartment is less than 300 square feet, space is so limited that often there is no room to keep a pet (plus, pets are usually not permitted). One practical option for pet-starved people is to visit a petting zoo like Nekobukuro, or Cat’s House. Here you can pay the equivalent of $7 an hour to pet and play with the free roaming cat residents. The “zoo” is very colorful with lots of nooks and crannies for the kitties to hang out in and play on. There are always a selection of breeds on hand and the cats, being of different moods and dispositions, provide a variety of interaction possibilities. If you’d like to watch the cats in action, here’s a youtube video of a couple’s visit that you’ll enjoy. And for those of you who go to Nekobukuro: on your way out of shop you’ll appreciate the cat-hair lint removers they provide for your use at the door.
